Federal funding to help Canadian businesses adopt and commercialize AI
The Regional Artificial Intelligence Initiative is a Government of Canada program that supports businesses that are bringing AI products to market or putting AI to work in their operations. Priority sectors include manufacturing, agriculture, health and life sciences, energy and natural resources, and transportation.
RAII isn't one national application. Each of seven regional development agencies delivers it, and each sets its own funding amounts, cost-share rules, intake windows and paperwork. An application that works in Ontario may not fit what Alberta or Nova Scotia is looking for.

Do you work with businesses outside my province?
Yes. We work with applicants in all ten provinces and all three territories. Everything can be done remotely by video call and email.
Why do the requirements differ between provinces?
RAII is delivered by seven federal regional development agencies, and each one sets its own funding amounts, cost-share rules, intake periods and priorities. For example, Atlantic Canada currently requires projects of at least $1 million, while the Prairies fund projects from $250,000. We keep track of these differences so you don't have to.
Is RAII funding a grant or a loan?
For most businesses, RAII funding is an interest-free repayable contribution. Not-for-profit organizations can often receive non-repayable funding. The exact terms depend on your region and your project. See your region's page for details.
Can you guarantee my application will be approved?
No one can guarantee funding, because decisions are made by the government agency. What we can do is make sure your application is complete, clear and closely aligned with what your region is looking for.
Are you affiliated with the Government of Canada?
No. Hoekd Consulting is an independent consulting firm. We help applicants prepare their submissions. All funding decisions are made by the regional development agencies.
